School Context
The Institute consists of two schools, which were once separate and independent one from the other: Liceo Scientifico “Federigo Enriques” and Istituto Tecnico Commerciale e per Geometri “Europa Unita”. It is located in Lissone (Milano), in the north of Italy, an area intensely urbanised and industrialised. The Institute has connections with local, national and international institutions so that it can offer articulate opportunities to the students in the cultural, social, humanitarian and technical fields. The combination of two different courses (lycée and technical courses) in the same Institute favours a good competence both for a global development of knowledge, allowing a more facilitated access to any university faculty, and for acquiring technical skills - necessary for work.

Aims
Educational aims in the Institute consist in:
c favouring a harmonic development of the student’s personality;
c acquiring a capacity of judgement so that students become self-confident and respectful of others;
c acquiring capacity to adapt flexibly to new places and situations;
c developing a mutual relationship with everybody, independently of different sex, race, religion and language;
c favouring consciousness of one’s rights and duties in the community;
c making students aware of the environment and encouraging respect for the surroundings;
c developing such themes as health and wealth, equal opportunities between men and women, ethnic religious and cultural differences.

Curricular plans
Lycée - This course offers such a variety of subjects as to evidence the link between science and the humanistic tradition of knowledge. In this way the students leaving the lycée have competences that allow them to cope with any kind of university choices, both scientific and humanistic, but also they are prepared to face working situations which require capacity to experiment through a serious method of research together with communicative and planning skills.
Accountancy course - This course aims at the acquisition of specific competences for professionals in both private and public administrative areas. The students can also enter any university faculty, preferably law, economics and languages.
Surveyors course - The students acquire knowledge, competences and abilities to be spent in the field of building, territory and surveying. They can enter any university faculty, principally engineering and architecture.

Extra curricular activities
The Institute also plans activities contributing to the students’ personal development:
c projects to help the students for orientation in their choices for university or if they have difficulty in their studies;
c cultural projects are developed to deepen the knowledge in some areas, generally not touched in the curricula, to acquire a sense of belonging to the European cultural identity, to reinforce the capacity of expression and communication and to develop the students’ creativity;
c projects to make the students acquire knowledge and competences in the use of the new technologies;
c projects to guarantee the respect of rules related to social life, the road security, the physical and psychological wealth;
c projects aiming at deepening the school curricula also through participation in national or international competitions, individually or for the whole class.
