INTRODUCTION TO THE UNESCO WORK

Here there is a historical-architectonic analysis of the Cusani, Arese Borromeo, Reati, Tittoni villas, and CAM building, situated in Brianza. This work made by the students of the three-year C course during the school years 2001-2002/2002-2003, with the help and the supervision of the teachers, have the purpose to make a reflection on the symbol of the house in the twentieth-century. In this context, the reconstruction of the history of the mentioned above villas, before the XX century and contemporary, allows to delineate analogies and differences in the origin and in the development both in the structural aspect and in their use. Altogether Cusani Villa and the Arese Borromeo Palace, constructed for private use by aristocratic families of vassals and princes remains in possession of the descendants  respectivly until 1976 and  1987. The history of the Reati and Tittoni Villas appears to be different, even though they were meant as dwellings, they are characterized by the property passage from the nobility to the bourgeoisie before becoming around the half of the twentieth century public properties of the Town Hall. In the present days CAM (Center Monza Analysis) building represents a particular case in our work; in fact, it was manufactured for private use in the first years of thetwentieth century making it impossible to compare the previous historical-architectonic aspects . As far as the comparison between the history of these settlements is concerned, we have formulated one possible hypothesis. The fact that Cusani Villa and Borromeo Palace remain for a longer time the possession of the respective dynasties than the Reati and Tittoni property, could be explained in relation to the dynasties themselves; in fact, the Cusanis and Borromeos have multicentennial history that influenced for a long time on the territory of the Brianza.
